Executive Director, Member Relations
Helene joined OCLC in 2012 and currently serves as the Executive Director of Member Relations supporting Global Council activities and member engagement as well as helping libraries make connections through the OCLC Community Center. Before joining OCLC, Helene worked for nearly 20 years in the public libraries, most recently at Columbus Metropolitan Library as the Director of Digital Strategy. In 2007, she was named a Library Journal "Mover & Shaker," and in 2008 received ALA's LITA/Library Hi Tech Award for Excellence for her many contributions to library and information technology. She is the lead author of Weaving a Library Web: A Guide to Developing Children's Websites (2004) and has written for several publications, including Computers in Libraries and Digitale Biblioteek (Netherlands).
A well-known speaker and consultant on library innovation and fresh practices, she is best known for the discovery learning program, Learning 2.0: 23 Things, which she created while serving as Technology Director for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (NC) that created a massive 2.0 learning movement among libraries worldwide.
