Scott Seaman

Dean of Libraries, Ohio University

Scott was named the Dean of Libraries at Ohio University in 2008. He began his library career in 1984 at OCLC in retrospective conversion, and he has served as a faculty member at The Ohio State University and at the University of Colorado at Boulder. At the University of Colorado, he served as Associate Director of Libraries for 11 years, where he was responsible for strategic planning, assessment, library budgeting, facilities and human resources. Scott has published widely on library assessment and information ethics. He is a founding editor of LIBRES, one of the first online open-access journals in librarianship, serving as Editor of Research & Applications for nearly 10 years. He also served as Associate Editor of The Journal of Academic Librarianship from 2005 until 2012, and he has served on the boards of several prominent academic library journals. Currently, he is on the editorial board of Reference & User Services Quarterly. Scott has served on numerous national committees pertaining to library administration and management, and several governance boards including those of the Colorado Library Association and the Central Colorado Library System. He is the former Chair of the OhioLINK Library Advisory Council and serves on the Ohio Board of Regent’s Advisory Board for OhioLINK. Additionally, he chairs one of the three Ohio University governance committees to implement and manage a campus-wide Resource Centered Management (RCM) budgeting model. Scott holds a bachelor’s degree from Wright State University and graduate degrees from The Ohio State University and Kent State University.
